Blooms on the wild side

It's the middle of June and the vegetation has started to establish itself at Felixstowe's new Martello Park. Some of the colour is coming from formal flower beds, with plants chosen to cope with the relatively infertile soils here, which are thin and have developed on shingle. It's a relatively hostile environment and the landscapers have created some wild areas in some places. This sort of environment is rare in Britain and they are trying to encourage plants that grow in thin soils and on shingle in a coastal environment. These native plants can be colourful and interesting, which is the purpose of the video.
